Route guide
Amsterdam to Nice is 528 nautical miles and about 1h 50m in a midsize jet. Per person it starts near €1,150 with six on board. The decision on this route is not the aircraft but the airport: Nice for capacity, Cannes-Mandelieu for proximity, and a helicopter for Monaco.
Nice is the busiest leisure route out of Amsterdam after Ibiza and, unlike Ibiza, it runs all year: the Riviera has a March conference season, a May event season, a summer and a September yacht show. Under two hours in any class, non-stop.
| Class | Block time | Whole aircraft, one way | Per person |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light jet | 1h 55m | €6,850 – €13,300 | €1,150 – €2,200 (6 pax) |
| Midsize jet | 1h 50m | €12,100 – €21,800 | €1,500 – €2,750 (8 pax) |
| Heavy jet | 1h 45m | €21,200 – €37,100 | €2,100 – €3,700 (10 pax) |
With six on board, the light-jet figure sits inside a flexible business-class fare on the same dates, which is why this sector is where many first charters happen. Our break-even comparison has the full per-person table.
Two airports serve the coast, and the choice is a trade between proximity and capacity.
| Nice Côte d'Azur (NCE) | Cannes-Mandelieu (CEQ) | |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic | Scheduled airlines plus a dedicated business aviation terminal | Business aviation only |
| Aircraft | Any class | Jets up to 35 t MTOW (22 t for turboprops): every light and midsize jet, most heavy jets |
| To Cannes | 30–45 min by road, about 10 by helicopter | About 10 min by road |
| To Monaco | About 7 min by helicopter, 30–60+ min by road | Longer; use Nice |
| Peak weeks | Slot-coordinated; more capacity | Slots and parking very limited during the festival and Grand Prix |
For Cannes itself, CEQ wins whenever a slot exists. For Monaco, Antibes, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and anywhere east, Nice wins outright. For anything intercontinental or a large aircraft, Nice is the only option. The honest broker answer is to quote whichever field has a slot and parking on your dates, which in May is not always the one you would choose.
Nice to Monaco by helicopter takes about seven minutes from a heliport next to the terminals, on scheduled shuttles or as a private transfer, and it replaces a coastal road that can take over an hour on a summer Friday. To Cannes it is roughly ten. The transfer is booked with the flight so that the helicopter is waiting when the jet's door opens; crews coordinate the timing directly. It is the single most effective use of a few hundred euros on this route.
| Event | When | Effect | Book |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIPIM (property) | March | Cannes-Mandelieu fills with business traffic | 4–6 weeks ahead |
| Cannes Film Festival | Mid to late May | Regional slots and parking at their tightest of the year | 3–6 months ahead |
| Monaco Grand Prix | Late May / early June | One of Europe's peak charter weekends; helicopters sell out | 3–6 months ahead |
| Cannes Lions | June | Corporate demand, midweek | 4–6 weeks ahead |
| Summer weekends | June–September | Busy but workable | 2–3 weeks ahead |
| Monaco Yacht Show | Late September | Heavy-jet demand from abroad; the week after is the year's best for empty legs north | 4–6 weeks ahead |
Outside those weeks, Nice is a routine sector: a week's notice is comfortable and same-day is realistic. Our guide to booking windows explains why event weeks are the exception.
For a weekend, the aircraft usually flies home after dropping you and returns to collect you, which puts two positioning legs in the price; for a day trip it waits. Which is cheaper depends on the gap and on parking at Nice, and the return-leg guide works through the crossover. The Amsterdam–Nice corridor is also one of the busiest for empty legs: if your return date is loose, ask.
Send the dates and the party and the quote comes back with the airport and the helicopter already thought through. The form has the route in it.
Questions
528 nautical miles, or 1h 55m block time in a light jet and 1h 50m in a midsize jet — door closed at Schiphol to door open at Nice. Every class flies it non-stop.
Cannes-Mandelieu (CEQ) is business aviation only, ten minutes from the Croisette, and takes jets up to 35 tonnes maximum take-off weight — every light and midsize jet, and most heavy jets. Nice (NCE) takes anything, has more slots and parking, and is 30–45 minutes from Cannes by road or about ten by helicopter. For the festival, CEQ if you can get a slot; otherwise NCE.
By helicopter in about seven minutes from a heliport beside the Nice terminals, on a scheduled shuttle or a private transfer; by road in 30 minutes to over an hour depending on the season. We book the helicopter with the flight so the two connect.
The May weeks of the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix, when regional slots and parking are the tightest of the year, and the summer weekends from June to September. Published guidance for the festival period is three to six months ahead; for an ordinary summer weekend, two to three weeks.
