Guide
A private jet can usually depart within three to six hours of your call on a European sector under 500 nautical miles. The limits are crew duty hours, airport slots and border formalities rather than finding an aircraft. Send route, passenger count and passports and the clock starts immediately.
Same-day charter is real and we arrange it. It is also the case where honest expectations matter most, because the constraint is almost never the one people imagine. There is nearly always an aircraft. What there is not always is a crew legally able to fly it, a slot at the airport you want, and the border formalities in place for where you are going.
Published industry guidance puts a realistic same-day departure at three to six hours from confirmation on domestic and short European sectors, and that matches our experience. Faster happens when an aircraft with a rested crew is already at your airport. Slower happens for the reasons below.
| Constraint | Why it binds | Typical effect |
|---|---|---|
| Crew duty time | Flight and duty limits are regulated and cannot be waived. A crew that flew this morning may not have hours left for your sector plus positioning. | Decides which aircraft can fly, not just which are free |
| Airport slots | Coordinated airports allocate departure slots; late in the day at a busy field the next available slot may be hours off. | Sets the departure time once an aircraft is found |
| Border formalities | Leaving or entering Schengen needs customs and immigration provision at both ends, and a passenger manifest filed in advance. | Adds an hour or more; impossible without passports |
| Permits | Many non-EU destinations require overflight and landing permits issued by their authorities, on their timetable. | Pushes long-haul same-day to 24–72 hours |
The same as any other charter on that route with that aircraft. There is no urgency premium as such. What changes is which aircraft is offered: the nearest one that can legally fly, which may be larger than you need or positioned from further away. Both push the price up; neither is a surcharge. Occasionally the reverse happens and an idle aircraft nearby makes same-day the cheapest version of the trip. Our cost guide has the rate bands per class.
Short European sectors from the Netherlands — London, Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt, Geneva, Nice, Munich, Copenhagen — are realistic within the day on most dates. Southern Europe in summer is realistic but subject to slot restrictions at the destination, which our Ibiza guide describes. Anything requiring a permit — the Gulf, North Africa, most of the world outside Europe — should be treated as a next-day request until an operator confirms otherwise.
An honest answer within minutes, not a reassuring one. If the earliest realistic departure is 18:00, we say 18:00. If a rested crew is at Schiphol now, we say that too. The request itself takes one message: route, passengers, earliest time at the airport, passports. The form works, but for a same-day request WhatsApp is faster, because we can ask the one follow-up question in real time rather than by email.
Questions
Industry guidance puts same-day departures at around three to six hours from confirmation on straightforward European sectors, and some can be faster if a suitable aircraft is already at your airport with a rested crew. Intercontinental sectors need 24 to 72 hours for permits and slots regardless of urgency.
Not by rule. There is no rush surcharge in charter pricing; the price is set by which aircraft is available nearby. Same-day can be more expensive because the nearest suitable aircraft is far away and has to position, and it can occasionally be cheaper because one is sitting idle. See our guide to positioning flights.
Departure airport, destination, number of passengers, earliest time you can be at the airport, and a photo of each passport or ID card. Everything else — catering, ground transport, luggage — can follow. The manifest is what the airport needs before anything else happens.
Sometimes, but not reliably. Overflight and landing permits for many non-European countries take a day or more, and long sectors need a crew with enough duty time remaining. For Dubai or the Middle East, plan on 24 to 72 hours. We will tell you honestly which it is.
