Flying the yard to Monaco: group charter for the Dutch superyacht industry

Dutch yards — Feadship, Oceanco, Heesen, Amels among them — are at the Monaco Yacht Show every September with teams of ten and more. One heavy jet from Rotterdam or Schiphol carries twelve to Nice in 1h 45m at €1,750 to €3,100 a head, arriving together, the day before the show opens, with the helicopter waiting.

A Dutch event held abroad

The Netherlands builds more large yachts than almost any country, and the industry's annual market is in Monaco. Feadship, Oceanco, Heesen and Amels exhibit at the show; their sales teams, project managers, designers and owners' representatives travel every September, and so do the suppliers along the Nieuwe Maas and the Zuid-Willemsvaart who fit them out. A yard's delegation is ten, fifteen, twenty people, with a launch to present and a week of meetings to fill.

That is a group charter problem with a specific shape: a fixed date, a party that must arrive together and rested, exhibition material, and a home base that is often Rotterdam rather than Amsterdam. This guide is the arithmetic and the logistics for it. The show itself is covered in our Monaco Yacht Show guide.

Which aircraft for which team

Rotterdam or Amsterdam to Nice, one way, by party size. Block times from our model; per-person cost from published 2026 rate bands plus 20–40% trip costs. Computed 2026-09-20.

At twelve, the per-head figure sits where a flexible scheduled fare on the same dates sits, for a departure that leaves when the team is ready from a terminal with no queue. Our group charter guide has the general argument; the yard case is its clearest instance.

Rotterdam first

For a team leaving from the Drechtsteden, Zeeland or the Kaag, Rotterdam The Hague is the natural airport: a single-runway field with a short walk from car to cabin, and by our model the flight to Nice is within four minutes of Schiphol's. The comparison shows the numbers. For a team from Oss or the north, Schiphol; for a mixed team, the airport nearest the majority, with the aircraft waiting for the others rather than the other way round. Eindhoven serves the south-east and is in our Dutch airports guide.

The show-week chain

  • Arrive the day before. Tuesday for a Wednesday opening. The Tuesday slots at Nice are easier than Wednesday morning's, and a rested team sets up rather than arrives.
  • Drop-and-go or wait. Four nights of parking at Nice in show week is the item that may not be available; an aircraft that returns Saturday to collect the team removes the risk at the cost of two positioning legs. We quote both; the return-leg guide explains the crossover.
  • Helicopter for the team, road for the material. Fontvieille slots are scarce and a delegation of twelve is two helicopters. Exhibition material usually goes by road from the yard, days ahead; the team's own luggage goes with the team.
  • The Saturday exodus. The show closes Saturday and the slots that afternoon are the contested ones. Book the departure with the arrival.

Split departures

Not everyone stays four days. A common pattern is the full team out Tuesday, the sales team home Saturday, and the project managers back midweek for meetings in the port. One aircraft cannot do all three, and the honest quote is one large aircraft for the outbound and a mix of scheduled seats and a smaller charter for the staggered returns. Say who leaves when, and the quote is built around the calendar rather than the headcount.

The form takes a passenger count; for a delegation with material and split returns, a message with the plan is quicker, and WhatsApp reaches us fastest.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How many people can travel together?

Up to 10-12 in one heavy jet; above that, two aircraft or a VIP airliner with 19 to 50 seats. For a yard sending a delegation of ten to fifteen, one heavy jet or two midsize jets are the usual answers, and we quote both so the per-head figures can be compared.

Can we leave from Rotterdam instead of Schiphol?

Yes, and for Alblasserdam, Vlissingen or Kaag it is the sensible choice: a smaller field with a shorter walk to the aircraft, and by our model the same flight time to Nice within four minutes. Our comparison of Schiphol and Rotterdam puts numbers on it.

What does it cost per person?

From published 2026 rate bands plus trip costs, a heavy jet from Amsterdam to Nice with ten on board works out at €2,100 to €3,700 per person one way, and with twelve at €1,750 to €3,100. A midsize jet with eight is €1,500 to €2,750. Return structures and show-week parking change the total; ask for both.

What about exhibition material?

Models, samples and display cases are payload like anything else, and on a short sector the constraint is hold shape rather than weight. Send the dimensions with the headcount; a heavy jet's hold takes most of it, and anything larger travels by road ahead of the team. Our guide to outsize luggage has the hold figures.
