Circuit Zandvoort: the track, the Dutch Grand Prix, and how to get there
Circuit Zandvoort is a 4.259 km, 14-corner track in the dunes 30 km west of Amsterdam, with two corners banked at 18 degrees. It hosted the Dutch Grand Prix from 1952 and from 2021 to 2026, when the race ended for financial reasons. DTM, the Historic Grand Prix and Formula E still race there, 30 minutes from Amsterdam by train.
The circuit
Zandvoort is one of the oldest permanent circuits in Europe and one of the most unusual: a short, narrow lap laid through coastal dunes, with the North Sea on one side and a beach resort of 17,000 people on the other. The 2020 rebuild that brought Formula 1 back kept the character and added the two features everyone now knows it for — corners banked so steeply the cars run them like a velodrome.

The banking is what made the modern Zandvoort race. The final corner, named for the two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Arie Luyendyk, lets the cars carry speed onto the pit straight with the DRS already open, and it turned a track once thought too small for modern Formula 1 into one drivers rated among the season's best laps.
The Dutch Grand Prix, 2021–2026
Formula 1 raced at Zandvoort from 1952 to 1985, with gaps, and then not for 36 years. It came back in 2021 on the strength of one Dutch driver and an orange crowd that filled the dunes, and for three years the result was the same.

Why Formula 1 left
Money. The race did not generate the revenue to continue without outside support, and none arrived; the promoter chose not to extend beyond 2026, and the organisers described the August race as the last "for now". Zandvoort is not on the 2027 calendar of 24 rounds. The calendar now has a rotation mechanism — Spa and Barcelona alternate years — that shows how a race can keep a place without running annually, but nothing is announced for the Netherlands.

The circuit did not close; it got its August back. Three fixtures matter for anyone planning a visit.

For a private aviation client these behave like a smaller Grand Prix: the same airport, the same helicopter, a fraction of the crowd.
Getting there
Zandvoort's access is its defining constraint. The town is small, the roads are two-lane, and on Grand Prix weekends the organisers closed the area to cars entirely: the crowd came by train, bicycle and shuttle bus. A direct train runs from Amsterdam Centraal to Zandvoort aan Zee in about 30 minutes and the station is a short walk from the circuit. For an ordinary race weekend that is the right answer for almost everyone.

The lesson generalises to every circuit: a jet solves the airport, a helicopter solves the road, and the last kilometre is what the organiser makes it. Zandvoort made it a walk through the dunes. For Dutch F1 fans now
The nearest Grand Prix is Belgium: Spa-Francorchamps is 45m from Amsterdam to Liège, ten minutes more by helicopter, and on the 2027 calendar on 25 July. For anyone south of Utrecht it is closer by road than Zandvoort was. Silverstone is 1h 05m and Monza 1h 40m; both are day trips. The Spa guide has the airports and the day-trip plan.

Is there a Dutch Grand Prix in 2027?
No. The promoter chose not to extend beyond 2026 for financial reasons, and Zandvoort is not on the 24-round 2027 calendar. The circuit stays busy — DTM on 6–8 August 2027, the Historic Grand Prix at the end of August, and a Formula E round is scheduled — but Formula 1 has left for now.
How do you get to Circuit Zandvoort?
By train: a direct service from Amsterdam Centraal to Zandvoort aan Zee in about 30 minutes, and the station is a short walk from the circuit. On Grand Prix weekends the area was car-free, so the road was not an option. By air: Schiphol is 30 km away, and helicopter transfers land at a golf club near the circuit with shuttles to the gate.
